How to turn off after work to fully enjoy your life.
This 3 step process helps me turn off after work so I can fully enjoy my life.
If you've ever struggled to shut down your work and feel present you're not alone.
Many owners have no division between their business and their life.
The result is never being able to turn off.
Feeling stuck on your phone or computer 24/7.
Working dozens of hours more than you want to each week.
And ultimately missing too much of the life you work so hard to create.
I know because I've experienced this too which led me to try different strategies to create more separation.
So if you're a person who is struggling to detach yourself from your work at the end of day,
Here's my simple process to wind down my work and engage in my life.
1. Choose the time you will finish your day (and stick to it)
- When you work until the work is done you never feel finished.
- When you create a boundary on your time you know when to call it.
I finish at 4 each day so I can make the most of my afternoon and night.
2. Get off the computer and put away the phone for the night.
- Even when you leave your office your brain is still in work mode.
- Your phone is constantly lighting up with emails, notifications, and distractions that call for your attention.
To counter this I've set my email and social media notifications to turn off between 4pm-8am so they can't interrupt my life.
3. Do some exercise to get in your body.
- We did not evolve to sit and stare at a screen all day...
- My mental health suffers the most when I work all day then sit in front of another screen all night.
I close my work day with 30-60 mins of exercise (walking, running, lifting, stretching, etc) to shift my focus back to my life.
To recap:
1. Choose the time you will finish your day.
2. Get off the computer and put away the phone for the night.
3. Do some exercise to get in your body.
These 3 steps have helped me wind down effectively after work and provided the peace of mind so I can be present in my life.
I believe if I've put in a good 7-8 hours of work I deserve to enjoy the other 8+ hours to live my life without stressing about my business!
How about you?
