3 reasons taking a vacation is good for your business.
Taking a vacation is good for your business.
Here are 3 counter-intuitive reasons why.
I’m home after a few fun weeks in Europe and it was a great reminder of the importance of taking breaks.
I almost didn't go on the trip because I felt strong doubts and hesitation about the timing.
I was nervous about losing momentum while I was away and I was thinking:
“Is this really the right time to step away?”
“What if I fall behind my goals?”
“Will my clients understand?”
But then I remembered the main reason I started my business was to have the freedom to fully enjoy my life outside of work.
Yes, leaving my business for a week or two of vacation can be scary.
But it's terrifying to have a business I can never escape from.
Here are 3 counter-intuitive lessons why we all need more vacations:
1. Time away from our business gives us perspective and energy to keep making it better.
It's easy to lose perspective on the bigger picture when we are pushing hard through the day-to-day challenges.
Stepping away helps us reconnect with our goals and find new ways to achieve them.
2. Sometimes you need to take a break from your work to understand how it’s impacting you.
I carried a lot of stress into the first days of my vacation.
Taking space showed me how much pressure I’ve been feeling and helped relieve the tension.
Now I’m excited to jump back in with a focus on enjoying the ride more.
3. There’s never a perfect time for a break but it's not sustainable if you don’t make the time.
Every business owner struggles to take enough time off from their business.
There will always be something that you feel needs more attention.
But if you don’t prioritize your energy, enjoyment, and downtime you won’t be able to keep it up long term.
If you’re one of the many who hasn’t taken a real vacation in years, I invite you to reflect on how a vacation could impact the quality of your life and business.
Give yourself a break!
Reconnect with yourself.
Spend time with your loved ones.
Your business will still be there when you get back.
But you will be recharged and ready to bring more clarity and energy to keep it rolling.
